UCFS works with numerous partners to help spread the word and educate the community about healthy eating, being physically active and other health topics.
In 2016, in collaboration with St. John Providence Health presented a series of health education workshops provid- ed by physicians throughout metro Detroit. These Health Prevention workshops drew 580 people, all interested in improving their health. 60 individuals received one-on-one assistance with access to medical care as our coordinators and volunteers helped individuals with applying for health care bene ts, transportation to doctor appointments, re- view and interpretation of medical documents, scheduling medical appointments, and accompanying clients who had no transportation to doctor of ces or hospital.
In 2016, UCFS, led by St. John Providence’s Dr. Evone Barkho, reached over 100 pregant women and mothers to improve the health of women and their families. Pro- gramming included maternal, newborn and child health, immunization schedule, breast feeding and lactation support and other important medical care information.
